Nach vier ruhigen Tagen ist auf der italienischen Mittelmeerinsel Lampedusa wieder ein Flüchtlingsboot aus Tunesien eingetroffen. Am Donnerstag hatte der italienische Aussenminister Frattini gewarnt, die Zahl der Migranten aus Nordafrika könne auf 50'000 anwachsen, wenn die Europäer keinen Plan aufstellten. Die Volkswirtschaften in der Region müssten stimmuliert und junge Leute zum Bleiben ermutigt werden, so Frattini. read more

Angesichts der Situation von Lampedusa wird wieder einmal klar, dass es nicht mehr reicht, nur die Grenzen abzuschotten. Flüchtlingspolitik muss weiter gehen, die gesamte EU sollte sich ihrer Verantwortung für die tunesischen Flüchtlinge bewusst werden. Auch weil Europa den tunesischen Diktator jahrelang geduldet und toleriert hat, ohne Rücksicht auf die Lage der Menschen in Tunesien zu nehmen. Die EU-Staaten können sich jetzt nicht mehr aus der Verantwortung stehlen. Sie müssen sich solidarisch zeigen und vorübergehend Flüchtlinge aus Italien übernehmen. read more

Die Türkei wird vorerst keine Flüchtlinge, die über ihre Grenze nach Europa gelangt sind, wieder aufnehmen. Die endgültige Einigung zwischen der Türkei und der EU auf ein sogenanntes Rückübernahme-Abkommen sei am Streit um Erleichterungen für Türken bei Reisen nach Europa gescheitert, meldeten mehrere türkische Medien am Freitag. Mit dem Rückübernahme-Abkommen würde sich die Türkei verpflichten, alle illegalen Flüchtlinge aufzunehmen, die über ihr Territorium nach Europa gelangen. read more
Auf der italienischen Insel Lampedusa ist ein weiteres Boot mit tunesischen Flüchtlingen eingetroffen. Das Boot mit 26 jungen Männern habe in der Nacht die Insel erreicht, sagte eine Sprecherin der Internationalen Organisation für Migration (IOM) am Freitag in Genf. Die Flüchtlinge seien nach eigenen Angaben von der Insel Djerba aus in See gestochen. read more

Die Italienische Bischofskonferenz (CEI) hat zu einer umfassenderen Hilfe und einem verstärkten Schutz für Bootsflüchtlinge aus Nordafrika aufgerufen. "Wer heute aus Nordafrika flieht, hat Angst vor einem Bürgerkrieg", heißt es in einer Erklärung der CEI-Kommission für Migration und der kirchlichen Stiftung "Migrantes" vom Freitag. Deshalb sei es wichtig, "Instrumente zu schaffen", um diesen Menschen, die internationale Unterstützung forderten, Asyl und Schutz anbieten zu können. read more

Ihre Zukunft ist ungewiss, die Angst vor der Abschiebung laut italienischer Medien groß. Deshalb wollen Hunderte von tunesischen Flüchtlingen auf Lampedusa südlich von Sizilien in einen Hungerstreik treten und somit auf ihre dramatische Lage aufmerksam machen. Schlechtes Wetter und die stärkeren Kontrollen tunesischer Behörden an den Küsten haben die Flüchtlingswelle in Richtung Süditalien vorerst gestoppt. Den dritten Tag in Folge wurden auf der Insel Lampedusa zwischen Sizilien und Tunesien keine Landungen von Flüchtlingen gemeldet. Sorge besteht jedoch wegen Gerüchten über ein Boot mit 500 Migranten an Bord: Dieses soll Tunesien am Dienstag verlassen haben, traf aber nie auf Lampedusa ein. read more

Der Ansturm tunesischer Bootsflüchtlinge auf die italienische Mittelmeerinsel Lampedusa sorgt auch in Deutschland weiter für Diskussionen. Bundesinnenminister Thomas de Maizière (CDU) erklärte, er lehne eine Aufnahme der Flüchtlinge in Deutschland strikt ab. Die Polizeigewerkschaften warnten derweil vor einem wachsenden Flüchtlingsstrom und forderten den Aufbau einer EU-Küstenwache. read more

Angesichts des Flüchtlingsstroms nach Europa fordert die Opposition im Bundestag die Aufnahme geflohener Nordafrikaner auch in Deutschland. Der SPD-Innenexperte Sebastian Edathy sprach sich für eine europäische Quotenregelung aus. Auch die Grünen forderten eine gerechte Verteilung der Flüchtlinge in der EU. "Deutschland entzieht sich bisher sträflich seiner Verantwortung", kritisierte der integrationspolitische Sprecher, Memet Kilic. Parteichef Cem Özdemir sagte der in Düsseldorf erscheinenden "Rheinischen Post", der Norden dürfe den Süden nicht alleine lassen. read more

Beim Kentern ihres Bootes sind vor der Küste von Mosambik 51 illegale somalische Einwanderer ums Leben gekommen. Das Boot aus Somalia habe 129 Menschen an Bord gehabt, darunter 89 Somalier und 40 Äthiopier, sagte ein Sprecher der Polizei im nördlichen Mosambik. Unter den Toten seien 50 Somalier sowie der Kapitän des Bootes. Die Überlebenden seien nach Mosambik in ein Flüchtlingslager gebracht worden. Der Vorfall habe sich bereits am 5. Februar ereignet. read more

Thomas de Maizière ist gegen eine Aufnahme tunesischer Flüchtlinge in Deutschland. Angesichts der Flüchtlingswelle von Afrika nach Europa fordern Polizeigewerkschaften den Aufbau einer EU-Küstenwache mit 2500 Grenzschützern. Der Chef der Deutschen Polizeigewerkschaft, Rainer Wendt, sagte der "Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung“: „Mit dem Sturz der Diktatoren Nordafrikas wird der Flüchtlingsstrom nach Europa massiv wachsen.“ Dieser Ansturm lasse sich nur stoppen, wenn Europa zur Festung umgebaut werde. read more

Angesichts des Ansturms tunesischer Flüchtlinge auf die italienische Mittelmeerinsel Lampedusa bereitet die Europäische Union eine Mission der Grenzschutzagentur Frontex vor. Der Einsatz soll in den kommenden Tagen beginnen, sagte der Leiter von Frontex, Ilkka Laitinen. 30 bis 50 Beamte beteiligten sich, mehrere Schiffe und Flugzeuge sollten in der Region patrouillieren. Frontex verfügt über keine eigenen Kräfte, sondern muss Personal und Ausrüstung bei den EU-Mitgliedstaaten anfragen. Innenkommissarin Cecilia Malmström appellierte vor dem Europaparlament in Straßburg an die EU-Mitglieder, Frontex zusätzliche Hilfen zur Verfügung zu stellen. read more

Der Umbruch in Tunesien, Vorbild für den Aufstand in Ägypten, wurde bisher in Europa mit einiger Sympathie verfolgt – im Fernsehen. Die Folgen bekommt nun der italiensche EU-Vorposten Lampedusa hautnah zu spüren. Und schon wird heftig gestritten über Eindämmung und Bewältigung des neuen Flüchtlingselendes auf Lampedusa. Der italienische Staat hat den Notstand erklärt und ruft nach europäischer Unterstützung. Die können oder wollen die EU-Partner aber nicht in dem Umfang leisten, wie es notwendig wäre. read more

n der größten Stadt der Türkei können Illegale gut untertauchen. Von hier suchen sich viele Flüchtlinge aus Afrika oder Asien einen Weg in die EU. Die wenigen Nichtregierungsorganisationen (NGOs), die sich in Istanbul um Flüchtlinge kümmern, konzentrieren sich vor allem auf Frauen und Kinder, die Schwächsten im großen Treck, der sich Jahr für Jahr, Monat für Monat und Tag für Tag aus Afrika, Asien und dem Nahen Osten über Istanbul in Richtung Europa bewegt. read more

Eine höllische Reise haben 3 Tunesier hinter sich, die sich in einem Container auf einer Fähre versteckt hatten. Diese fuhr von Tunis nach Genua. Die Behörden bleiben tatenlos. Der Verdacht drängt sich auf, dass hier jemand bewusst darauf spekuliert hat, dass Panik und Chaos auf Lampeduas ausbrechen. Doch das ist nicht passiert. Das liegt vor allem an der entspannten Haltung der Insel-Bewohner. read more

5300 Tunesier sind laut Flüchtlingskommissariat der Vereinten Nationen (UNHCR) in den vergangenen drei Tagen auf der Insel Lampedusa und auf Sizilien gelandet - mehr als im ganzen Jahr 2010. Unklar ist, wie viele der Flüchtlinge möglicherweise Asyl in Italien beantragen können, weil sie in Tunesien verfolgt wurden. "Vor dem Hintergrund der prekären Sicherheitslage müssen Asylanträge sorgfältig geprüft werden", mahnte die Organisation Pro Asyl. Die Europa-Abgeordnete Barbara Lochbihler (Grüne) forderte, andere EU-Staaten müssten tunesische Flüchtlinge aus Italien aufnehmen. Der UNHCR hingegen geht derzeit davon aus, dass die meisten Tunesier aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen das Land verlassen und keinen Schutz benötigen. read more
