SPD-Innenexperte Sebatian Edathy sagte der "Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung", dass die Asylbewerberzahlen hierzulande deutlich gesunken seien. Dadurch gebe es die Möglichkeit, ein bestimmtes Kontingent an Flüchtlingen zu verkraften. CSU-Politiker Hans-Peter Uhl verlangte derweil, den Zuständigkeitsbereich von Frontex zu erweitern, um die EU-Grenzen besser zu schützen. Dazu sei die Aufstockung des Personals und eine effektive Küstenwache nötig. In italienischen Abschiebungshaftanstalten brechen erneut Revolten aus. Nach Bari, Brindisi und Modena nun auch im nördlichen Gradisca. Erst gestern wurden hierhin 50 Tunesier aus Lampedusa verlegt. 30 kamen in die Erstaufnahme für Asylsuchende, 20 in die Abscheibungshaft. 8 tunesische Überlebende, die am 11.2. nach Italien fahren wollten, haben gestern schwere Vorwürfe gegen die tunesische Küstenwache erhoben.man sei absichtlich auf sie zugefahren und habe in internationalen Gewässern den Tod von 5 Menschen verursacht, 30 werden vermisst. 85 Menschen konnten gerettet werden, erklärte Ziad Ben Abdaalah, 23 Jahre, einer der Überlebenden. Die Europäische Union reagiert mit ihren Hilfszusagen auf ein Schreiben des italienischen Innenministers Roberto Maroni an EU-Innenkommissarin Cecilia Malmström. "Frontex bereitet eine Mission in der Gegend vor." "Die Operation wird in einigen Tagen beginnen", sagte der Leiter von Frontex, Ilkka Laitinen, beim 14. Europäischen Polizeikongress in Berlin. An dem Einsatz würden sich zwischen 30 und 50 Beamte beteiligen, mehrere Schiffe und Flugzeuge sollten in der Region patrouillieren. read more

5000 Menschen sind kein Exodus, ein hoch entwickeltes Land wie Italien kann sie ohne Schwierigkeiten versorgen. Deshalb ist es richtig, in diesem Fall nicht auf die italienische Hysterie einzugehen. Skandalös aber ist, dass die EU nun schon seit 15 Jahren einem beispiellosen Drama im Mittelmeer (und auch im Atlantik vor den Kanarischen Inseln) zusieht, das nach Zählungen von Nichtregierungsorganisationen inzwischen bis zu 16.000 Menschen das Leben gekostet hat. read more

Die tunesische Regierung hat den Vorschlag Italiens zurückgewiesen, angesichts des Stroms tausender tunesischer Bootsflüchtlinge eigene Polizisten in das nordafrikanische Land entsenden zu wollen. "Das ist inakzeptabel", sagte der Sprecher der tunesischen Regierung, Taïeb Baccouche, am Sonntag dem Fernsehsender Al Arabiya. EU-Innenkommissarin Cecilia Malström hat Kritik der italienischen Regierung zurückgewiesen, die EU-Kommission lasse das Land mit dem Strom nordafrikanischer Flüchtlinge alleine. Die Kommissarin sei "sehr überrascht" über entsprechende Äußerungen, sagte Malmströms Sprecher in Brüssel. Die EU-Innenkommissarin habe die Lage auf der italienischen Mittelmeerinsel Lampedusa bereits am Samstag in Gesprächen erörtert und gefragt, ob angesichts der außergewöhnlichen Situation Hilfe von Seiten der EU benötigt werde. read more
