Das Flüchtlingsdrama auf der winzigen Insel Lampedusa südlich von Sizilien weckt in Italien Erinnerungen an die Massenflucht von Albanern über die Adria in den 90er Jahren. Damals schlug italienisches Militär seine Zelte in Albanien auf, um die Versorgung der Bevölkerung zu sichern und eine weitere Massenflucht nach Italien zu verhindern. Jetzt hat der italienische Innenminister Roberto Maroni von der ausländerfeindlichen Regierungspartei «Lega Nord» der tunesischen Regierung nach diesem Modell Hilfe angeboten. An der Südküste Italiens bahnt sich eine humanitäre Katastrophe an, befürchtet die weltweit größte unabhängige Kinderrechtsorganisation Save the Children. Zwei Mitarbeiter sind auf Lampedusa im Einsatz und kümmern sich um die Bootsflüchtlinge aus Tunesien. Unter den mehr als 4.000 Migranten, die in den vergangenen fünf Tagen auf der nur 20 Quadratkilometer großen Insel angekommen sind, befinden sich auch viele Kinder und Jugendliche. Sie kommen alleine oder mit ihren Familien. Save the Children Mitarbeiter konnten bisher 100 Minderjährige identifizieren; 44 von ihnen wurden bereits nach Porto Empedocle (Sizilien) gebracht. Nach der Ankunft von fast 5000 Flüchtlingen in fünf Tagen hat die italienische Regierung in Lampedusa den Notstand erklärt und das vor zwei Jahren geschlossene Aufnahmelager wieder geöffnet.Die Forderung des Innenministers nach Einsatz italienischer Soldaten in tunesischen Häfen wurde von der Regierung in Tunis entschieden abgelehnt. Eine Einmischung Italiens in die inneren Angelegenheiten sei unerwünscht, zumal die Forderung von einem Minister komme, der einer "rassistischen Partei" angehöre. Man sei jedoch bereit, zur Eindämmung des Flüchtlingsstroms beizutragen. read more

Es wird keine italeinischen Polizisten auf tunesischem Territorium geben, aber eine zukünftige Frontexmission könnte in internatiolane Gewässern vor der tunesischen Küste patrouillieren. Das haben der italienische Außenminister Frattini und der tunesische Premier Mohammed Ghannouchi gestern in Tunis besprochen. Die Regierung in Rom verlangt Geld aus Brüssel, um den Flüchtlingsansturm bewältigen zu können, und will 200 zusätzliche Soldaten zur Kontrolle der Auffanglager abkommandieren. Am 25. Januar 2011 begannen in Griechenland 300 Flüchtlinge einen Hungerstreik, der bis heute andauert. Jetzt beginnt für die Hungerstreikenden eine kritische Phase, einige sind bereits zusammengebrochen und ins Krankenhaus gebracht worden. Die Hungerstreikenden fordern einen legalen Aufenthalt. In Griechenland gibt es eine massive Unterstützung von anderen Flüchtlingen und Antirassistischen Initiativen, aber die Regierung stellt sich stur und versucht mit brutaler Repression diesen Kampf zu ersticken – bislang ohne Erfolg. read more

Die Unruhen in Nordafrika haben nun auch direkte Auswirkungen auf Europa. Tausende Flüchtlinge kamen in den vergangenen Tagen über das Meer nach Italien - und die Behörden erwarten, dass noch viele folgen werden. Die Küstenwache macht am Horizont ständig neue Boote aus. Inzwischen hat es mindestens ein Todesopfer unter den Migranten gegeben. Die amtliche tunesische Nachrichtenagentur TAP meldet, dass ein Flüchtling starb, als ein mit zwölf Personen besetztes Boot vor der tunesischen Küste sank. Im Laufe des heutigen Tages wird das Auffanglager Lampedusa nun doch wieder eröffnet. Innenminister Maroni war bis gestern strikt dagegen, da es falsche Zeichen setze. Doch aufgrund der nunmehr über 4000 Ankünfte, größtenteils aus Tunesien, ist der Lage nicht mehr Herr zu werden auf Lampedusa, wo die Migranten zum Teil zwei Nächte in der Kälte auf der Hafenmole verbringen mussten, weil ihnen der Zugang zum funktionsbereiten Lager verwehrt war. Seit Mitternacht sind an diesem Tage bisher üpber 1000 Migranten angekommen. Im Moment befinden sich ca. 2500 auf der Insel Lampedusa. Das Auffanglager hat nun doch wieder eröffnet, noch befinden sich aber 1500 Menschen im Stadion. Die Carabinieri haben Verstärkung zur Bewachung angefordert. In Österreich sind täglich AsylwerberInnen, die schon jahrelang in Österreich leben, von Abschiebung bedroht. Die Situation von Melitus Onongaya, einem nigerianischen Asylwerber, dessen Asylantrag nun in letzter Instanz abgelehnt wurde, ist ein Beispiel von vielen. Auch der Widerstand in der Bevölkerung gegen die österreichische Abschiebepraxis steigt. Immer öfter organisieren sich Angehörige, FreundInnen, Bekannte von betroffenen AsylweberInnen und fordern mit öffentlichen Aktionen, Kundgebungen und Demonstrationen ein geregeltes Bleiberecht in Österreich. read more

Das italienische Außenministerium hat die EU gebeten, sofort einen Frontexeinsatz im Mittelmeer zu starten. Grund sind die Ankünfte von inzwischen mehr als 2000 tunesischen (und vielleicht anderen) Flüchtlingen auf Lampedusa. Innenminister Maroni lässt derweil nicht nach, immer wieder die Terrorangst heraufzubeschwören: unter den Geflüchteten seien sicher auch Terroristen. Die Demokratische Partei hat indes die Wiedereröffnung des Lagers auf Lamepdusa gefordert, was jedoch von der Regierung abgelehnt wurde, die Radikale Partei forderte, dass die Flüchtlinge nicht sofort zurückgeschoben werden sollen. Der Flüchtlingsstrom aus dem nordafrikanischen Unruheland Tunesien nach Italien reißt nicht ab. In der Nacht zum Samstag kamen erneut etwa 300 Tunesier in mindestens sieben Booten auf der italienischen Insel Lampedusa an. Dort droht der Notstand, weil die Behörden überfordert und die Aufnahme- und Abschiebelager auf der kleinen Insel vor Monaten geschlossen worden sind. Angesichts eines massiven Flüchtlingsstroms aus dem nordafrikanischen Unruheland Tunesien hat die italienische Regierung für die Insel Lampedusa den humanitären Notstand ausgerufen. In der Nacht zum Samstag waren erneut mehr als 300 Tunesier in mindestens sieben Booten auf der rund 150 Kilometer vor der nordafrikanischen Küste gelegenen Insel angekommen, und noch mehr Boote aus Tunesien haben Kurs auf Lampedusa genommen. Innerhalb von vier Tagen hätten insgesamt 4000 Flüchtlinge die Insel erreicht, sagte Lampedusas Hafenkommandant Antonio Morana. read more

Acht Kinder sitzen in einem Boot, das sich den Wellen des Ozeans stellt. Nur ist das Boot nicht aus Holz, sondern aus Stoff. Die Jungen und Mädchen laufen hintereinander her und halten es sich um die Taille. Auf einer Seite steht auf Deutsch: "Tausende Tote auf dem Weg nach Europa". Hunderte Menschen folgen dem Stoffboot in einem Protestmarsch durch die Straßen Dakars. Der Protest gilt der europäischen Agentur Frontex. Sie koordiniert die Zusammenarbeit der europäischen Staaten an ihren Außengrenzen, unterstützt die Länder bei Rückführungen und beobachtet unter anderem die Küsten Afrikas. Sie ist der Feind all derer, die um jeden Preis nach Europa kommen wollen, um ein besseres Leben zu finden. read more
