Angesichts Hunderter tunesischer und ägyptischer Flüchtlinge hat der italienische Innenminister Roberto Maroni am Freitag vor einer humanitären Katastrophe in seinem Land gewarnt. So sollen in den vergangenen drei Tagen etwa 1.000 Menschen auf der nahe der afrikanischen Küste gelegenen Insel Lampedusa angekommen sein, die vor den Unruhen in Tunesien und Ägypten geflohen sind. Die ungarische Ratspräsidentschaft ist dem Schutz der Grenzen der EU verpflichtet und möchte im Rahmen der Tätigkeit von Frontex eine besondere Rolle spielen, erklärte Innenminister Sándor Pintér am 9. Februar 2011 in Gödöllő bei Budapest. Frontex ist die Europäische Agentur für die operative Zusammenarbeit an den Außengrenzen. Es ist Zeit unsere Solidarität zu zeigen! Es wird zu einer europäischen Solidaritätswoche zur Unterstützung des Hungerstreiks vom 7. bis 13. Februar aufgerufen. Nicht nur existieren überall griechische Konsulate und Botschaften, das Problem ist ein europäisches, also gibt es viele Orte, an die sich gehen lässt, um zu protestieren. Am 25. Januar sind 300 MigrantInnen in Griechenland in den Hungerstreik getreten. read more

Die Lage in Tunesien wirkt sich offensichtlich auf die Flüchtlingswelle in Richtung Süditalien aus. Die italienische Küstenwache berichtet von über 500 Flüchtlingen aus Nordafrika allein diese Woche. An der Küste der italienischen Insel Lampedusa sind seit Dienstag mehrere Schiffe mit mehreren Hundert Flüchtlingen an Bord gelandet. Wegen der Unruhen in Tunesien holte der Zürcher Fussballclub FCZ seinen Reisecar mit einiger Verspätung von Tunesien zurück in die Schweiz. Wie sich nun herausstellte, wurde die Rückreise des FCZ-Cars für eine illegale Ausreise benutzt. Ein 21-jähriger Tunesier hatte die Gunst der Stunde genutzt und sich in den Radkasten des Cars verkrochen, um so in die Schweiz zu gelangen. Wie die Stadtpolizei Zürich am Dienstag mitteilte, hat der Mann die Reise offenbar unverletzt überstanden. read more

Europa sollte nicht vergessen, dass es die Immigranten braucht. Drei Fluchtversuche aus italienischen Abschiebungshaftanstalten: vor allem die erst kürzlich in Italien angelandeten Tunesier kämpfen um ihre Freiheit. Sie haben nichts verbrochen, außer ihrer illegalen Einreise in Italien, die müssen sie nun mit bis zu sechs Monaten Haft bezahlen. Vor dem Flensburger Landgericht hat am Dienstag der Prozess gegen einen internationalen Schleuserring begonnen. Den Angeklagten wird die mehrfache Einschleusung von Irakern nach Deutschland vorgeworfen. Mehr als 40 Flüchtlinge sollen mit angemieteten Wohnwagen von Griechenland über Italien nach Deutschland gebracht worden sein. Sie sollen bis zu 10 000 US-Dollar (gut 7000 Euro) pro Kopf für die Schleusung bezahlt haben. Einige von ihnen stellten später Asylanträge. read more

Angelika Nußberger ist seit Januar neue Richterin am Menschenrechtsgerichtshof. Immer häufiger wird sie auch in die deutsche Politik eingreifen. Vor einigen Tagen war die Stimme des Europäischen Gerichtshofs für Menschenrechte (EGMR) wieder deutlich zu hören. Das Gericht entschied, dass Griechenland Asylbewerber unmenschlich und erniedrigend behandele. read more
