Nach einer Woche ohne feste Nahrung haben rund 300 Einwanderer in Griechenland ihren Hungerstreik ausgeweitet. Seit Dienstag verzichten sie auch auf Zucker und Tee und nehmen nur noch Wasser zu sich. "Wir werden unseren Kampf bis zum Ende fortsetzen", kündigte ein Sprecher in Athen an. Eine Lösung ist aber nicht in Sicht. Seit dem 25. Januar 2011 befinden sich 300 MigrantInnen in Griechenland im Hungerstreik, um ihre Legalisierung einzufordern. Die Entrechtung von Menschen aufgrund ihrer Herkunft findet nicht nur in Griechenland statt, sondern in ganz Europa. Die Solidarität mit den Hungerstreikenden und ihren Forderungen ist ein konkretes Eintreten gegen die Abschottung und den Auschluss von MigrantInnen, wie er in Europa praktiziert wird. read more

Gleich mehrere zur Fahndung ausgeschriebene Männer hat die Bundespolizei am Wochenende auf der Autobahn A7 fest. Am Samstag verhafteten Beamte drei Georgier mit Schweizer Ausländerausweisen, die zur Ausweisung beziehungsweise Abschiebung ausgeschrieben waren. Wie die Polizei am Montag mitteilte, betrieben sie schon in anderen europäischen Ländern Asylverfahren. Zudem besaßen die Männer keine gültige Aufenthaltsgenehmigung. n Punkto Asylpolitik betreibt die EU eine Politik der Abschottung. Das meint der neue Berater des Päpstlichen Migrantenrates, Christopher Hein, im Gespräch mit uns. Als Beispiel nennt der gebürtige Deutsche und Direktor des Italienischen Flüchtlingsdienstes (CIR) das Schicksal afrikanischer Flüchtlinge, die seit Monaten auf der Sinai-Halbinsel festsitzen. Auf ihrer Flucht nach Europa wurden sie im Grenzgebiet zwischen Ägypten und Israel gekidnappt. Es handelt sich um gut 100 Flüchtlinge vor allem aus Eritrea sowie Somalia und Äthiopien, darunter auch Frauen und Jugendliche. Sie werden von Beduinen unter schrecklichen Bedingungen gefangengehalten; einige von ihnen starben durch Hand der Entführer. read more

"Es ist klar, dass Asien und der Pazifik unter den von den Auswirkungen des Klimawandels am schwersten betroffenen Regionen sein werden", heißt es in dem Entwurf eines Berichts der Asiatischen Entwicklungsbank (ADB), aus dem die Nachrichtenagentur AFP zitiert. Die Region sei "besonders anfällig wegen ihrer starken Exposition für das Umweltrisiko und ihrer hohen Bevölkerungsdichte". Die Erderwärmung könnte daher in den kommenden Jahrzehnten "Bevölkerungsverschiebungen von bisher ungekanntem Ausmaß" auslösen. read more

Im Jahre 2010 hat das DCI (Direktorium für internationale Zusammenarbeit) 17000 Immigranten abgewiesen. Zudem wurden mehr als 1500 Fälle von gefälschten Dokumenten, vor allem bei der Einreise über die Flughäfen, angezeigt, was eine leichte Steigerung gegenüber dem Vorjahr dar-stellt. Das DCI ist in 156 Ländern vor Ort und umfasst mehr als 200 französische Polizisten. Die Veröffentlichung der Zurückweisungspraxis der italienischen Behörden nach Libyen über Wikileaks vom 9.5.2009 schlägt Wellen. Obwohl der UNCHR damals über die Misshandlungen der Flüchtlinge durch italienische Marineangehörige berichtet und um Hilfe gebeten hatte, hatte sich der italienische Botschafter in Libyen taub gestellt.
