Wieder wurden 30.000 haïtianische Einwanderer in den Vereinigten Staaten samt ihren Familien in ihre Heimat abgeschoben. Kriegsschiffsweise werden Bootsflüchtlinge nach Port-au-Prince zurückgeschafft, wo sie die Probleme der Übervölkerung, der Arbeitslosigkeit und des Hungers noch verstärken. Sie verfügen nicht einmal über die Mittel, in ihre ursprüngliche Herkunftsgegend zurückzufahren, wo sie eher noch Arbeit und Essen finden könnten. read more

In Italien wächst die Sorge über die große Zahl minderjähriger Flüchtlinge, die auf Lampedusa eintreffen und dann untertauchen. Zwischen Mai 2008 und Februar 2009 sind auf der Mittelmeerinsel zwischen Sizilien und Tunesien 1994 Flüchtlinge unter 18 Jahren eingetroffen. 1119 davon sind laut der Hilfsorganisation "Save the Children Italia" untergetaucht. read more

Nach der Einführung strengerer Anforderungen für einen deutschen Pass ist die Zahl der Einbürgerungen einem Bericht der "Süddeutschen Zeitung" zufolge im vergangenen Jahr drastisch zurückgegangen. Das Blatt beruft sich dabei auf Antworten auf Parlaments-Anfragen der Linkspartei und Anfrangen bei einzelnen Ländern von einem Rückgang um mindestens 15 Prozent. Wie die US-Zeitung "Christian Science Monitor" berichtet, leben im griechischen Patras 2.000 afghanische Flüchtlinge in selbstgebauten Slumhütten. Der griechische Innenminister Pavlopoulos sieht Sicherheits- und Hygienestandards durch den Slum gefährdet und hat angekündigt, ihn noch vor Beginn der Urlaubssaison niederzureißen und die Menschen in alten Militärbaracken außerhalb der Stadt unterzubringen. Die meisten der Migranten wollen dabei eigentlich in andere EU-Länder weiterreisen, was die Regelungen der EU allerdings verhindern. (Artikel in englischer Sprache) read more

PRO-ASYL-Europareferent Karl Kopp im Interview zur Lage von Flüchtlingen in Griechenland: "Die martialische Abschreckungspolitik führt nicht dazu, dass niemand mehr kommt, sondern dazu, dass die Wege nach Europa immer gefährlicher werden. Man kann Flüchtlinge nicht mit militärischen Mitteln davon abhalten, ein menschenwürdiges Leben zu suchen. Die Lösung wäre, den Schutzsuchenden einen gefahrenfreien Zugang zu gewähren. An den europäischen Grenzen findet jedoch ein Krieg gegen Bootsflüchtlinge statt." read more

Asylsuchende, die an der türkischen Grenze ankommen, befinden sich immer häufiger in Lebensgefahr, da die türkischen Behörden ihnen keinen Schutz gewähren, so der neue Bericht von amnesty international mit dem Titel „Stranded: Refugees in Turkey denied protection“. Der Bericht ist am 22. April erschienen und legt die Hindernisse für Flüchtlinge in der Türkei dar. Frankreich und Spanien wollen bei der Bekämpfung von Terrorismus, des organisierten Verbrechens und der illegalen Immigration enger zusammenarbeiten. Dies sieht ein Abkommen vor, das in Madrid unterzeichnet wurde. Zur Bekämpfung der illegalen Zuwanderung wollen beide Länder gemeinsame Polizeiaktionen zur Zerschlagung von Schlepperbanden und zur Festnahme von "Illegalen" vornehmen. Paris und Madrid kamen ferner überein, gemeinsame Flüge zur Rückführung illegaler Einwanderer in deren Heimatländer zu organisieren. read more

Seit über zehn Jahren hausen tausende illegale Einwanderer unter menschenunwürdigen Bedingungen in einem Slum am Rand der westgriechischen Stadt Patras. Jetzt will das griechische Innenministerium dem Elend ein Ende machen, das derzeit besonders die Kinder im Lager betrifft. Griechenland will sein Flüchtlingslager in Patras auflösen. Die Flüchtlinge, überwiegend Afghanen, die illegal aus der Türkei nach Griechenland kamen und von Patras als blinde Passagiere nach Italien überzusetzen hoffen, sollen in einer Kaserne untergebracht, verpflegt und medizinisch betreut werden. read more

Die lybische Küstenwache hat 200 MigrantInnen aufgehalten, nachdem das Boot gerade in Tajurca in der Nähe von Tripolis gestartet war. Libyen hatte im Februar einen Vertrag mit Italien unterzeichnet, der die illegale Migration eindämmen soll. "Wir haben das Boot gestoppt und nach Lybien zurückgelenkt, die Migranten wurden notversorgt", so ein Beamter der Küstenwache. Die Flüchtlingen kommen laut Aussage eines anderen Beamten aus Niger, Nigeria, Ghana und Mali. Die Beamten konnten nicht sagen, was nun mit den Flüchtlingen passiert. read more

Das überladene Boot war zwei Nächte und einen Tag unterwegs. Keiner der somalischen Flüchtlinge hatte sich bewegen dürfen. Das hätte das kleine Boot zum Kentern gebracht. Bei jeder Bewegung schlug der Schleuser hemmungslos auf sie ein. Endlich näherten sie sich der rettenden Küste. Ein Boot der jemenitischen Küstenwache tauchte auf. read more

Der Frachter "Pinar" mit 140 Flüchtlingen an Bord fand jüngst weder auf Malta noch in Italien einen Hafen. Eine hochschwangere Frau überlebte das diplomatische Tauziehen der Länder um die Verantwortung für die Menschen nicht. Heute werden sich die EU-Außenminister mit dem Thema beschäftigen. Unterdessen wurde auf Lampedusa die junge Frau zu Grabe getragen. read more

700 tunesische und marokkanische Migranten, die seit Dezember 2008 in Lampedusa in Haft sitzen, sind freigelassen worden. Das Dekret 11/2009, dass die Haftverlängerung über die vormals üblichen 60 Tage hinaus zuließ (bis zu 6 Monaten), läuft am 26.4. ab und die Regelung ist nicht in einen neuen Gesetzestext übernommen worden. Die Transfers haben schon am 22. April begonnen, 121 Personen sind mit dem Flugzeug nach Rom und Crotone ausgeflogen worden, wo sie mit einem "foglio di via" - sie müssen Italien in 5 Tagen verlassen - frei gelassen wurden. Der spanische Zivilschutz hat an der Küste des Landes mehr als 120 afrikanische Flüchtlinge aufgegriffen. Nach Behördenangaben vom Freitag griffen die Beamten am Vorabend 92 mutmaßliche Algerier auf, die sich in fünf Booten der Küste der andalusischen Provinz Almeria näherten. Unter den Flüchtlingen waren demnach sechs Frauen und fünf Kinder. Zeitgleich wurden am Strand von Lujar in der ebenfalls andalusischen Provinz Granada 36 illegale Einwanderer in Gewahrsam genommen. Die Beamten waren durch Überwachungs- kameras auf die aus Marokko stammenden Flüchtlinge aufmerksam geworden. read more

Vier Jahre Haft für Elias Bierdel und Stefan Schmidt, dazu je 400.000 Euro Geldstrafe: Dies ist der Antrag der Staatsanwaltschaft von Agrigent im Prozess um den Rettungseinsatz der "Cap Anamur" im Sommer 2004. Schmidt, Kapitän des Schiffs, und Bierdel, der damalige Vorsitzende des gleichnamigen Hilfsvereins, hätten sich der gewerbsmäßigen Schleuserei schuldig gemacht, behaupteten die Staatsanwälte in ihrem Plädoyer am Mittwoch. Voraussichtlich am 20. Mai soll das Urteil in dem seit 2006 laufenden Prozess kommen. read more

Die Nichtregierungsorganisation Ärzte ohne Grenzen (MSF) darf wieder auf Lampedusa arbeiten, wie am Donnerstag bekannt wurde. Das sei den vielen Ankünften auf der Insel geschuldet. Die italienische Regierung hatte den Vertrag mit der NGO letztes Jahr ausgesetzt. Am 7. April hat MSF seinen Dienst wieder aufgenommen. Es gebe einen Vertrag bis zum 31.12.2009 mit dem Innenministerium. Das Team besteht aus zwei Ärzten, zwei Krankenschwestern und einem Sprachmittler. Seit Jahresbeginn sind über 6.000 Menschen über das Meer nach Süditalien gelangt, das sind doppelt so viele wie im Vergleichszeitraum 2008, teilte das Innenministerium am Freitag mit. Dabei war im Jahr 2008 bereits ein Rekordhoch von 36.952 Migranten gemeldet worden, 2007 waren es 20.455 gewesen. read more
