Die Bevölkerung der kleinen Ägäis-Insel Agathonissi, wo seit Januar viele Flüchtlinge angekommen sind, hat die Ankündigung begrüßt, daß die Regierung eine Küstenwachtstation mit 26 Mitarbeitern auf der Insel errichten will. Bürgermeister Evangelos Kottoros forderte jedoch, auch eine Lösung für die 96 auf der Insel verbleibenden Flüchtlinge zu finden. Die Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft „Asyl in der Kirche“ hat eine „Kriminalisierung“ humanitärer Hilfe für schiffbrüchige Flüchtlinge beklagt. Die Ökumenische Organisation kritisierte am Donnerstag in Berlin den italienischen Gerichtsprozess im Fall „Cap Anamur“. Sie warf der italienischen Justiz eine „skandalöse Verdrehung“ von Tatsachen vor. Die „Cap Anamur“ hatte im Juni 2004 im Mittelmeer zwischen Malta und der italienischen Insel Lampedusa 37 Migranten aus Afrika an Bord genommen. Der Bergung folgte ein tagelanges Tauziehen mit den italienischen Behörden. Nach deren Einschätzung war die „Cap Anamur“ zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme der Flüchtlinge näher an Malta und hätte deshalb diese Insel anlaufen müssen. read more

Im Golf von Aden sind heute Nachmittag 35 Flüchtlinge ertrunken. Wie ein Sprecher der Flüchtlingsbehörde der Vereinten Nationen mitteilte, war das Boot mit 117 Migranten aus Somalia auf dem Golf von Aden unterwegs, als das Boot aus bisher unbekannten Gründen kenterte. Von 35 Passagieren konnten nur noch die Leichen geborgen werden, während der Rest der Flüchtlinge gerettet werden konnte. read more

Rund 150 Flüchtlinge aus Afrika haben auf der Mailänder Möbel- und Designmesse für Aufruhr gesorgt. Die Afrikaner blockierten mit Sitzblockaden einen Teil des in ganz Mailand stattfindenden „Fuori Salone“. Der Protest habe am Mittwoch zahlreiche Touristen von der internationalen Messe und Geschäften im Zentrum ferngehalten, protestierten Anwohner. Die Flüchtlinge, von denen viele von der Polizei kürzlich aus besetzten Häusern vertrieben worden waren, forderten Wohnung und Arbeit. read more

"Unser Kompass war kaputt, deshalb sind wir in eine völlig falsche Richtung gefahren", erzählt Le-Thuy. Aber das war Glück im Unglück, denn so ist das Flüchtlingsboot nach 22 Stunden auf See auf die deutsche Kap Anamur gestoßen, die in vietnamesischen Gewässern kreuzte, um Flüchtlinge aufzunehmen. Nachdem Italien am Montag 120 Flüchtlinge aufgenommen hat, die von einem türkischen Frachter aus maltesischen Gewässern gerettet worden waren, tobt weiterhin eine heftige Auseinandersetzung zwischen Rom und Malta über die Migrationspolitik. Der italienische Innenminister Maroni beschuldigte Malta erneut, den Flüchtlingen nicht die im Europäischen Protokoll "Search and Rescue" verlangte Hilfe gewährt zu haben, sondern sie stattdessen weiter in die Gewässer vor Sizilien treiben gelassen zu haben, um sich jeder Verantwortung zu entziehen. Daraufhin habe Italien einzig wegen eines "humanitären Notstandes" beschlossen, die Flüchtlinge aufzunehmen. Maroni will nun das Thema in Brüssel klären lassen. read more

Nach viertägigen Verhandlungen darf ein Frachter mit 140 Flüchtlingen an Bord in Italien anlegen. Zuvor hatte es einen erbitterten Streit zwischen Italien und Malta gegeben, welches Land für die Immigranten zuständig ist. Italien stimmte der Aufnahme am Sonntagabend "aus humanitären Gründen zu". Zuvor habe EU-Kommissions-Präsident Jose Manuel Barroso mit Italiens Ministerpräsident Silvio Berlusconi und dessen maltesischen Amtskollegen Lawrence Gonzi gesprochen, erklärte der italienische Außenminister Franco Frattini. read more

Der türkische Frachter «Pinar», der mit etwa 140 Flüchtlingen an Bord tagelang im Mittelmeer festsass, ist in der sizilianischen Hafenstadt Porto Empedocle eingetroffen. Die Behörden begleiteten zunächst etwa 30 Menschen von Bord. Die verbleibenden Passagiere sollten im Laufe des Tages an Land gebracht werden, sagte ein Sprecher der Hafenbehörde. Über die Nationalität der Flüchtlinge lagen keine Informationen vor. Die «Pinar» hatte die Menschen am Donnerstag vor Lampedusa aus Seenot gerettet, eine Frau wurde tot geborgen. read more

Die Vereinigung der juristischen Studien zur Migration (ASGI), die sich aus italienischen RechtsanwältInnen zuasmmensetzt , drückt ihre große Sorge über die Entscheidung der italienischen Regierung aus, die 154 Schiffbrüchigen auf dem türkischen Handelsschiff PINAR E nicht nach Italien einreisen zu lassen. Italien muss die Migranten aufnehmen, denn wenn das Schiff mit ihnen weiter nach Tunesien fährt, was das ursprüngliche Ziel war, dann, so ASGI, handelt es sich um eine kollektive Zurückschiebung, wie man es auch 2004 mit dem deutschen Schiff Cap Anamur versuchte. Ein Boot mit ca. 300 Flüchtlingen, unter ihnen auch Frauen und Kinder, wurden in der Nähe der südsizilian. Küstenstadt Pozzallo gerettet. Küstenwache und Zoll haben 26 sofort nach Pozzallo gebracht, die anderen Flüchtlinge sind noch auf dem Boot und werden nach Pozzallo geschleppt. Der türkische Frachter PINAR E, der vor zwei Tagen 154 Flüchtlinge gerettet hat, liegt 25 Seemeilen vor Lampedusa und darf keinen italienischen Hafen anlaufen. (Artikel in ital. Sprache) read more

Auf eine weitgehend unbeachtete Flüchtlingstragödie im Schatten von Lampedusa hat die Gesellschaft für bedrohte Völker (GfbV) am Freitag hingewiesen: Mit zumeist seeuntüchtigen Booten sind von Januar 2007 bis heute mehr als 97.000 Menschen aus Nordostafrika über den Golf von Aden in den Jemen geflohen. Dabei seien nach Angaben des Hochkommissars für Flüchtlinge der Vereinten Nationen (UNHCR) mindestens 2.460 dieser Boatpeople ertrunken oder auf andere Weise zu Tode gekommen. Die meisten Flüchtlinge stammten aus Somalia, ein Teil aus Äthiopien, berichtete die Menschenrechtsorganisation. read more

Der Lübecker Kapitän Stefan Schmidt, einst Chef der "Cap Anamur", muss sich seit zwei Jahren vor Gericht rechtfertigen. Nächster Termin: Der 22. April. Menschen in Seenot werden gerettet - für Stefan Schmidt, den ehemaligen Kapitän des Lübecker Frachters "Cap Anamur", ist das eine klare Sache. Er selbst hat vor knapp fünf Jahren 37 afrikanische Flüchtlinge vor dem sicheren Tod gerettet. Dafür steht er in Italien seit zwei Jahren wegen "Schlepperei" in einem Prozess vor Gericht, der wenig Substanz hat, aber viel Geld kostet. read more

Von den überfüllten Booten der Menschenschmuggler, die Nacht für Nacht Bürgerkriegs- und Armutsflüchtlinge aus Afrika an die jemenitische Küste bringen, nimmt dabei kaum jemand Notiz. Dass viele Kapitäne wegschauen, wenn sie die oft kaum seetüchtigen Flüchtlingsboote sehen, kommt den Piraten entgegen. Die internationale Hilfsorganisation "Ärzte ohne Grenzen" (MSF) hat die Zustände in den maltesischen Flüchtlingslagern hart kritisiert. Vor dem Menschenrechtsausschuß des EU-Parlaments bezeichnete MSF-Sprecher Antonio Virgilio die Lage dort als "erschreckend" und "Anschlag auf die Menschlichkeit". Ein türkisches Containerschiff hat im Mittelmeer 154 Bootsflüchtlinge aufgenommen, konnte aber zunächst weder Malta noch die italienische Insel Lampedusa ansteuern. An der Grenze der Hoheitsgewässer von Malta und Italien wartete das Schiff Pinar darauf, in einen Hafen einlaufen zu dürfen. Mehrere Ärzte wurden per Helikopter zu dem Schiff geflogen, weil die Bootsflüchtlinge den Berichten zufolge unter der Überfahrt von Nordafrika sehr gelitten hatten, sogar ein toter Flüchtling soll sich an Bord befinden. read more
