Eine weitere Gruppe von 10 Tunesiern ist in der vergangenen Nacht in ihre Heimat abgeschoben worden. Von den 262 Migranten, die am 1. Februar auf Malta gelandet waren, wurden damit bisher 63 repatriiert. Im Innenministerium hieß es, 28 Tunesier und 35 Ägypter seien ausgeflogen worden, weitere würden folgen, sobald die Papiere aus ihren Heimatländern eingetroffen sind. 50 Tunesier befinden sich derzeit noch im Lager Safi. Ein Film über illegale Einwanderer hat in Frankreich eine heftige politische Kontroverse ausgelöst, nachdem der Regisseur Philippe Lioret einen Vergleich zur Judenverfolgung im Zweiten Weltkrieg gezogen hat. Lioret hofft, dass sein Film zur Abschaffung eines Gesetzes aus dem Jahre 1945 führt, das Hilfen für Illegale mit bis zu fünf Jahren Haft bestraft. Mit seinem Film "Welcome" weist Lioret auf die Lage der etwa 700 illegalen Einwanderer hin, die bei Calais in Nordfrankreich auf eine Passage nach Großbritannien warten. read more

Der Polizei ist auf Fehmarn ein weiterer Schlag gegen die Schleuserkriminalität geglückt. Bei einer Kontrolle im Fährhafen Puttgarden entdeckten Beamte am Sonnabend in einem Kleinlaster 21 Flüchtlinge, teilte die Bundespolizei am Montag mit. Sie sollten nach Skandinavien geschleust werden. Ein Mann saß auf dem Beifahrersitz, die 20 anderen (16 bis 45 Jahre) waren unter menschenunwürdigen Verhältnissen ohne Getränke und Lebensmittel auf der Ladefläche. Erst hier fanden sie Schutz. 157 Sudanesen leben zurzeit im weltweit ersten Transitlager der Vereinten Nationen und warten auf ihre Einreiseerlaubnis in die USA. Die Gastfreundschaft der Menschen von Temeschwar hilft den Flüchtlingen. Aber nicht nur ihnen, räumt der Chef des Lagers ein: "Sicherlich geht es auch um das Image Rumäniens im Ausland. Ich glaube, dass die Tatsache, dass wir diesen Menschen hier helfen, Rumänien weltweit positiv angerechnet wird." read more

Das Problem in Tunesien festgehaltener algerischer Auswanderer ist eine sensible Angelegenheit und hält die Öffentlichkeit in Algerien in Atem. So kritisierte Kemal Balabed, offizieller Sprecher der "Kooperation zur See vermisster Haraga*" (*maghrebinisch für jemanden, der "illegal" auswandert, Anm. d.Übers.), in einem Beitrag für die algerische Zeitung El-Ouatan den Umgang der algerischen Behörden mit dem Problem, die die klandestine Migration kriminalisierten. Balabed schrieb, 68 "Haraga"-Auswanderer hätten Algerien vor zwei Monaten verlassen, und er hätte Kenntnis darüber, dass die 68 Personen von den tunesischen Behörden festgehalten würden, was diese jedoch geheim hielten. Balabed erklärte, seine Organisation hätte Beweise dafür, dass sich die fraglichen Personen bei tunesischen Staatlichen Stellen befänden, die jedoch mit seiner Vereinigung darüber nicht sprechen und ihr keine offiziellen Informationen herausgeben wollten. read more

Für den menschenunwürdigen Transport von Flüchtlingen sind zwei Schleuser vom Landgericht Flensburg am Donnerstag zu mehrjährigen Haftstrafen verurteilt worden. Die beiden Männer hatten 56 Iraker und einen Afghanen in zwei Kleinlastern von Mailand bis nach Schuby gebracht, wo sie von der Polizei erwischt wurden. read more

Breshanday Barlas ist der erste Stipendiat der Duisburg-Essener Universitäts-Stiftung. Mit 15 kam der gebürtige Afghane ins Ruhrgebiet. Ein Vorbild an Integration und Talent – dennoch droht ihm Abschiebung. Barlas ist in Deutschland nur geduldet, da er illegal eingereist ist. Nun hat ihn das Amt aufgefordert, nach Afghanistan zu reisen und sich dort bei der Botschaft zu melden. „Auch ein Studium schützt nicht davor, abgeschoben zu werden.” read more

In der Athener Innenstadt suchen Anwohner und Hilfsorganisationen Unterkünfte und sanitäre Einrichtungen für Flüchtlinge. Im Bezirk Aghios Panteleimonas forderten sie Behörden und die Orthodoxe Kirche auf, Gebäude für rund 250 - überwiegend afghanische - Flüchtlingsfamilien zur Verfügung zu stellen, die als Obdachlose in der griechischen Hauptstadt leben. Trotz des angeblichen Rückgangs der illegalen Einreisen nach Spanien und trotz der ultramodernen Kontrollmaßnahmen kommen die Boote mit MigrantInnen weiterhin an den spanischen Küsten an. Mitte Februar dann einer der größten Schiffsbrüche der letzten 10 Jahre: 24 Maghrebiner sterben kurz vor der Küste Lanzarotes. Nur aufgrund des Eingreifens von Surfern haben fünf Menschen überlebt. In vielen europäischen Ländern werden die Menschenrechte der Flüchtlinge missachtet. Das stellte der Ständige Beobachter des Heiligen Stuhls beim UNO-Sitz in Genf fest. Erzbischof Silvano Tomasi sprach anlässlich der 44. Versammlung des UNO-Flüchtlingskom-missariats. Der Vatikan-Vertreter fügte hinzu, dass jeder Staat seine eigene Migrationspolitik führen könne. Dennoch müssen die Staaten auch den Einwanderern alle Menschenrechte garantieren. read more

Zweimal wehte der Wind so heftig, dass der Grenzzaun umfiel. Das erste Mal erwischte es 60 Meter des äußeren Gitters der doppelten Umzäunung von Melilla und zwar auf der südlichen Seite. Stunden später am Nachmittag stürzten dann noch einmal 100 Meter Grenzzaun um. Die Behörden setzten sofort Instandhaltungstruppen ein, um die Sturmschäden auszubessern, außerdem wurden vermehrt Patrouillen eingesetzt, um die Zone vor Immigranten zu schützen. read more

Irakische Flüchtlinge werden sich in der syrischen Hauptstadt in ein Flugzeug drängen und noch am selben Tag im Aufnahmelager Friedland ankommen. Die Polizei hat 13 Personen wegen Menschenhandels festgenommen. Sie werden beschuldigt, Migranten illegal von Libyen nach Italien geschleust zu haben. Die Festnahmen erfolgten auf Sizilien, in Kalabrien und in der Lombardei. Nachdem Bandenmitglieder die Menschen nach Italien geschleust hatte, halfen sie den Ausländern zur Flucht aus den Auffanglagern und nutzten sie als billige Arbeitskraft aus. Mehrere Migranten wurden gekidnappt und nach der Zahlung von Lösegeld seitens der Angehörigen frei gelassen. read more

Die maltesische Regierung erwägt, die Strafen für die "Beihilfe zur illegalen Einreise" zu verschärfen. Die bisherige Höchststrafe für Schlepper beträgt auf Malta 5 Jahre Haft. Angesichts der beispiellosen Flüchtlingswelle dieses Winter erscheine diese Strafandrohung "unangemessen", hieß es. Drei illegale Einwanderer aus Albanien konnten gestern im Nordwesten Griechenlands aus Bergnot gerettet werden. Nach Angaben der Behörden in Florina hatte sich das Trio in den Wäldern verirrt und rief per Handy um Hilfe. Die Suche wurde durch Schneefälle und dicken Nebel erschwert. Kirchenasyl. Das klingt nach Schutz vor schlimmer Bedrohung. Das klingt nach Mittelalter. Und doch verstecken sich zurzeit acht Flüchtlinge in Berliner Kirchen. Um einen von ihnen bangt eine Friedrichshainer Gemeinde ganz besonders. Schon fünf Mal wollten Polizisten den jungen Tschetschenen abholen, der sich aus Angst vor der Abschiebung seit 12. Februar in der Samariter-Kirche versteckt. Jede Nacht schlafen Mitglieder der Gemeinde im Gotteshaus, schützen den 26-Jährigen Tag und Nacht mit ihrer Anwesenheit. read more

Ein Boot mit 120 Nordafrikanern wurde in der Nacht zu Mittwoch von einem Schiff der italienischen Marine im Mittelmeer entdeckt und abgeschleppt, teilte die Küstenwache mit. 86 Flüchtlinge wurden auf die Insel Lampedusa gebracht, die übrigen 34 brachten die Behörden auf Sizilien unter. Ein zweites Boot mit 171 überwiegend aus Nigeria stammenden Flüchtlingen, darunter ein Baby, landete am Morgen. Da das Auffanglager überbelegt ist, mussten die Neuankömmlinge am Hafen auf die Verlegung in ein anderes Lager warten. read more

In der griechischen Hafenstadt Patras ist es in der Nacht zum Dienstag zu Zusammenstößen zwischen Einwanderern und der Polizei gekommen. Dabei wurden nach Rundfunkangaben mindestens vier Menschen verletzt. Auslöser der Ausschreitungen war, dass ein Afghane sich beim Versuch verletzte, auf einen fahrenden Lastwagen zu springen. Er wollte im Lastwagen auf eine Fähre nach Italien kommen. Nach dem Zwischenfall attackierten Landsleute des Verletzten den Fahrer mit Steinen. read more
