Refugees and migrants tried to stop Migration Minister Giannis Mouzalas from entering the camp which is on the site of the city's former international airport. About 2,000 refugees and migrants, the vast majority from Afghanistan, were angry over poor living conditions at the site. On Sunday, some refugees started a hunger strike. read more

It comes after at least 1,131 were intercepted near the western Libyan city of Sabratha over the last week. 431 migrants were intercepted on four inflatable boats off Sabratha’s coast last Thursday.
