Während die Balkanroute von Griechenland bis Österreich und Bayern nahezu abgeriegelt ist, machen sich inzwischen mehr Flüchtlinge von Italien aus über die Schweiz auf den Weg nach Deutschland. Deren Hauptroute führt durch das Tessin und endet in Südbaden. Sowohl die Schweizer Grenzwacht als auch die deutsche Bundespolizei haben entlang dieser Route in den vergangenen Wochen deutlich mehr illegale Grenzübertritte festgestellt. read more

Immer mehr Flüchtlinge sind mit der langsamen Bearbeitung ihrer Asylanträge unzufrieden und ziehen deshalb vor Gericht. Ende Mai waren bundesweit rund 5800 sogenannte Untätigkeitsklagen gegen das Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge bei den Verwaltungsgerichten anhängig. Die Behörde bestätigte einen entsprechenden hr-Info-Bericht. Zum Jahresende 2015 waren es noch knapp 2300 Untätigkeitsklagen gewesen. read more

Die Leitung des Bistums Regensburg hat die Versorgung mit Lebensmitteln für die vier Roma Familien, die aktuell noch im Pfarrheim St. Emmeram sind, eingestellt und Strafanzeige wegen Hausfriedensbruch gestellt. Darüber hinaus hat die Bistumsleitung auch unterbunden, dass den ehemaligen Dom-Besetzern - darunter fünf Kinder und ein sechsmonatiges Baby - Lebensmittel und Getränke von Unterstützer/innen gebracht werden. read more

Nach fünf Wochen Protest ging am Montag alles ganz schnell: Die im Regensburger Pfarrheim St. Emmeram ausharrenden Flüchtlinge, die gegen die Einstufung der Balkanländer als sichere Herkunftsländer demonstrierten, mussten die Unterkunft verlassen. Am Montag räumte die Polizei das Gebäude. read more

An abandoned textile factory has recently been repurposed to serve as a housing and medical facility for refugees in Thessaloniki, Greece. Together with Frank Giustra, head of the Radcliffe Foundation, Amed Khan, a private investor and philanthropist, founded the Elpida Home Project. Khan was driven to create the refugee home after seeing the rough conditions refugees lived in in Greek camps. The Elpida Home Project opened on July 24 and refugees co-manage the facility alongside volunteers. read more
