The Sea-Watch ship Aurora was arrested by Italian authorities after a 37-hour rescue operation in which it supported the civilian rescue organisation Open Arms and rescued 72 people from distress at sea. Sea-Watch denounces the fictitious reasons for the arrest of the ship. Although the situation on board deteriorated by the minute after the rescue - one person was even found unconscious due to the extreme heat - the Italian rescue control centre assigned Trapani as a safe port, unreachable for the Aurora and almost four times as far away as Lampedusa. This year alone, more than 2200 people have drowned in the Mediterranean. read more

One week later, we are still in contact with the group who tell us of violence, imprisonment, and further push backs to Türkiye in spite of the outstanding Interim Measures. The Interim Measures were granted on August 2nd from the European Court of Human Rights, and ordered the Greek state to provide them with assistance.
