Thursday morning a search and rescue operation was underway off the coast of an eastern Greek island. Four people on the move were missing after a boat attempted to reach Greece from Turkey. Two Greek guard patrol boats and one vessel from the European border patrol agency Frontex have been involved in the search. read more

In fact, the Taliban's regime in Afghanistan has made their lives so difficult that its actions are to be considered as persecution based on gender. The Home Office in the UK is planning to send out questionnaires to asylum seekers instead of conducting official interviews. The eleven page document will include a list of 50 complicated questions to which people on the move will have to reply in English. On the evening of 25 January, a serious fire broke out in the stairwell of an apartment building in the Pankow district of Französisch Buchholz. In the part of the building affected by the fire, only refugees live in their own flats, which are managed by the district of Pankow. Two people are injured by the fire, one of them seriously. It is Yazi A. who succumbs to her severe injuries about two weeks later at the Charité. read more
