Turning the tide - The politics of irregular migration in the Sahel and Libya
Dieser Bericht analysiert den Zusammenhang zwischen irregulärer Migration und Konflikt und Stabilität in Mali, im Niger und in Libyen. Die Haupterkenntnis des Berichts ist, dass die derzeitige EU-Politik mit der Wirklichkeit der Trans-Sahara Migration nicht übereinstimmt, da sie die Vielseitigkeit der intra-afrikanischen Migration nicht berücksichtigt. Zusätzlich sind Menschenhandel-Netzwerke Teil größerer politischer Volkswirtschaften, diese können nicht effektiv adressiert werden, wenn nicht die staatlichen Akteure mit einbezogen werden, die in der Lage sind oder sein könnten irreguläre Migration zu kontrollieren. read more

Eurotunnel - Death at the fences, profits for Goldman Sachs
At least 15 people were killed in or around the channel tunnel in 2015. Some were electrocuted, some run over by trains, some chased by police into traffic near the entrance. All these deaths were a direct result of people trying to get past the intensive security put in place by Eurotunnel, funded by the British and French governments, to stop them reaching England. read more

Information Event concerning the Closing of EU Borders by the Example of Melilla
This coming Thursday, February 2nd 2017 at 7p.m., an information event concerning the border closing of the EU by the example of Melilla will take place at Haus der Demokratie Berlin. Four days later, February 6 2017, marks the third anniversary of the death of fifteen people, who tried to reach the European Union by swimming to the Spanish enclave Ceuta. At that time, border police confronted the swimmers with tear gas and shot at them with rubber bullets, thus showing the brutality and inhumane violence of the European border regime.

Mali refuses EU-Laissez-passers and calls airline companies not to accept them
On 29 December 2016, the Malian government produced a statement announcing its refusal to recognise the validity of the EU laissez-passer document used to return two of its citizens, who were sent back to France following their arrival in Bamako on 28 December 2016. The Malian authorities also invited air carriers to refrain from transporting its citizens on the basis of recognition of the validity of such documents, noting that they will be made to fly them back to Europe. read more

ECCHR: Hoffnung auf Gerechtigkeit für die Opfer des tödlichen Push-back an spanisch-marokkanischer Grenze
Mindestens 15 Tote und viele Verletzte: Das war die Bilanz eines Einsatzes der Guardia Civil, Spaniens paramilitärischer Polizeieinheit, am 6. Februar 2014 an der Grenze zwischen Marokko und der spanischen Exklave Ceuta. Nun hat die Audiencia Provincial(dt. Landgericht) in Ceuta entschieden: Die Ermittlungen gegen die Beamten, die an dem tödlichen Push-Back(dt. völkerrechtswidrige Zurückweisung) beteiligt waren, werden wieder aufgenommen. Es seien nicht genügend Zeugen vernommen worden und die Obduktion der Todesopfer sei ungenügend gewesen. Damit nahm das Gericht eine Beschwerde an, die der Madrider Kooperationsanwalt des European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights(ECCHR) gegen die Einstellung des Verfahrens im Oktober 2015 eingelegt hatte. read more

Bounties not Bodies: Smugglers Profit from Sea Rescues Though No Clear Alternative Available
The Financial Times reported that the European Union accuses MSF and other humanitarian organisations running search and rescue operations in the Central Mediterranean of working in collusion with smugglers or at least helping them to carry out their deadly trade. These allegations were made based on an internal report from the European border agency, Frontex. MSF requested Frontex to share this report with us, which they declined. Instead, they refute they accuse humanitarian agencies of collusion, but raise a number of concerns with our search and rescue operations. read more

Journey back to Lesvos 3: Everything is different – August 2015
It is more then one year later now – and what happened in 2015 already became history. A lot has changed since then, especially on Lesvos. After the EU-Turkey-deal and the closure of the Balkanroute, 60.000 people got stuck and are blocked under inhuman conditions in Greece. They are blocked from continuing their journey into another future. Lesvos, the island of solidarity has changed into the island of the trapped. Most deportations to Turkey are carried out via Lesvos. read more

The implementation of the hotspots in Italy and Greece
The “hotspot approach” has been envisaged as a model of operational support by the EU agencies to Member States faced with disproportionate migratory pressure, with the aim to help them swiftly identify, register and fingerprint migrants, support the implementation of relocation and returns. One year since the first hotspots were set up, and half a year since the entry into force of the EU-Turkey Statement of March 2016, this study analyses the legal framework and practices developed in Italy and Greece, the role of the different actors involved and the challenges that have emerged. read more

non-refoulement obligations, calling for more legal clarity. 30 Millionen Frauen und Mädchen sind laut dem UNO-Hochkommissariat für Flüchtlinge UNHCR weltweit auf der Flucht. 10‘957 von ihnen schafften es im Jahr 2015, in die Schweiz einzureisen und hier ein Asylgesuch zu stellen.
