Flows of forced migration, which mainly went so far through the Central Mediterranean

Decision of the Regional Asylum Office (RAO) of Lesvos regarding Turkeys status as safe-third-country

DO NOT TOUCH MY NEIGHBOUR!

Statement from the activist group "Komsuma dokunma": We have often witnessed refugees being taken from the city centers in small groups, against their will, and in house raids, to be placed in refugee camps via microbuses with tinted windows. In the current practice, any refugee can be sent to any camp, detention center or "accommodation center" without recourse to any legal process. The detention of refugees is by itself a major crime against human morality, but with this total isolation, any rights abuse that occurs inside these places is impossible to track. read more

What Merkel, Tusk and Timmermans should have see n during their visit to Turkey.

A delegation of three GUE/NGL MEPs to Turkey last week found that refugees who have been deported from Europe back to Turkey under the EU-Turkey deal are not being given any opportunity to apply for asylum. The delegation also found that all refugees in the 'removal centres' in Turkey were locked in prison-style conditions with no (or extremely limited) access to telephones or legal assistance. The delegation spoke directly with numerous refugees as well as with Turkish authorities at the removal centres in Kırklareli and Edirne; and with refugees, international organisations, NGOs and volunteers in Istanbul, Gaziantep and Kilis (next to the Turkey-Syria border). read more

Cadus / Sea-Watch Pressrelease: Ferries for a #safepassage, not for deportation!

CADUS // Sea-Watch condemn the deportations from Greece to Turkey which are taking place in line with the EU-Turkey deal since today morning, starting from our operational area Lesbos.
The recent agreement is forcing refugees on even more dangerous routes, and is favoring the business of smugglers in the first place. Sometimes, it even comes to death at sea, as Turkey is carrying out brutal pushbacks, while effective rescue efforts through civil society organisations as Cadus // Sea-Watch are hindered by the authorities. read more
