Sie legte heute dem Europäischen Ausschuss eine analytische Forderung zur Finanzierung durch die Europäische Union in Höhe von 13,6 Millionen Euro vor, zur sofortigen Inangriffnahme der dringend und sofort notwendigen Erstaufnahmen auf den Inseln der Ägäis. Danach werden für die Einrichtung von fünf neuen Asylabteilungen 1,2 Mill. Euro und für die Stärkung der Erstaufnahmeeinrichtungen auf den Inseln 700.000 Euro erbeten.

Pressure growing on Greek island of Lesvos
Summary of the speech by UNHCR spokesperson Adrian Edwards. – to whom quoted text may be attributed – at the press briefing, on 9 June 2015, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. In Greece, record numbers of refugees are continuing to arrive in rubber dinghies and wooden boats on Lesvos, straining the island's capacity, services and resources. Around 600 refugees, mainly from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, arrive every day in the Greek islands. Half of these are coming ashore in Lesvos. Arrivals there have grown from 737 in January and 1,002 in February, to 3,348 in March. Almost 5,000 arrived in April and over 7,200 in May. read more

Besuch des Ministers für Bürgerschutz auf der Insel Lesbos
Der stellvertretende Minister für den Bürgerschutz, Jiannis Panousis, wurde bei einem Besuch (4.6.15)auf Lesvos durch die lokalen lokalen Behörden über die Probleme informiert, die mit der Ankunft der großen Zahl von Migranten entstehen. Die Provinzgouverneurin Christiana Kalogirou benannte dabei die Probleme die dringend bewältigt werden müssen:
- Das Fehlen eines geeigneten Ortes der vorübergehenden Beherbergung der Migranten, welcher die Vorschriften und Voraussetzungen erfüllt, so dass er die öffentliche Gesundheit sch͢ützt und die Menschenwürde sichert
- Das Fehlen von Transportmitteln für die Migranten vom Ort ihrer Ankunft zum Ort der vorübergehenden Beherbergung
- Verzögerungen vom Transport der Migranten von den Inseln auf das griechische Festland. read more

„If the EU-politicians don’t want to give us these ferry lines, we will do it by ourselfs.“ (Trésor, Voix de migrants) Am 12. und 19. April sterben mindestens 1.200 Menschen im Mittelmeer. Als Antwort darauf veröffentlichten die Innen- und AußenministerInnen der EU am 20. April einen 10-Punkte Plan. In Zukunft soll mehr Geld in Seenotrettung investiert werden, doch der Fokus dieses Plans liegt eindeutig auf der Bekämpfung von Schleppern. Über 2.000 Migranten und Flüchtlinge auf Lesbos
Die örtlichen Behörden auf Lesbos sind angesichts der großen Zahl an Migranten total überfordert, es gibt nicht genügend Unterkünfte, es gibt zu wenig Personal für ihre Registrierung und sie müssen zum Teil in den Strassen der Stadt leben. In Mytilini wurde daraufhin von vielen Freiwilligen der Kara Tepe (Park der Verkehrserziehung) in einem Wochenendeinsatz mit Zelten und anderen Infrastrultureinrichtungen versehen, so dass es wenigsten eine Unterkunftsmöglichkeit gibt.

GDP - Die Inhaftierung von Asylsuchenden in der Mittelmeerregion
The Global Detention Project (GDP) investigates the use of detention in response to global migration.
The report focuses on eight key countries in Europe and North Africa. While there are clear differences in treatment from one side of the Mediterranean to the next, looked at collectively, the protection environment across all the countries in the region is bleak. Not surprisingly, the conditions of detention asylum seekers face in North African countries are often horrific and inhumane. However, in Europe, there are also serious shortcomings. In fact, as this backgrounder reports, reception and detention conditions in three of Europe’s main asylum receiving countries (Greece, Italy, and Malta) are so inadequate that many of their EU counterparts have been forced to halt returns to these countries under the Dublin III Regulation. read more
