Hundreds of navigation kilometres for one person
On Saturday, the NGO rescue ship Humanity 1 rescued a migrant off the coast of Libya. In accordance with Italy's 2022 Code of Conduct, the ship was ordered to head for a port immediately after the rescue, which prevents it from carrying out multiple rescues per mission. This approach by the Italian government restricts NGO operations and discourages further rescues in the Mediterranean due to the high cost of covering such long distances by ship. read more
