Croatia reports over 1,400 arrests of smugglers to date this year
Croatia has stepped up its efforts to combat smuggling, with a significant increase in the number of arrests of people involved in facilitating irregular migration. Smugglers, many of whom are foreign nationals, are heavily targeted as part of the country's crackdown on migration along the Balkan route. Despite the focus on criminalising these networks, smuggling rings continue to operate, particularly near the Bosnia-Croatia border.
