Seit Beginn der Unruhen in Tunesien haben 9.000 nordafrikanische Migranten die süditalienische Insel Lampedusa erreicht. Dies berichtete der italienische Innenminister Roberto Maroni in einem TV-Interview am Dienstagabend. Italien will in einigen Tagen nahe der tunesischen Grenze ein Transitlager für mindestens 50.000 Flüchtlinge aus Libyen errichten. Damit sollen jene, die vor den Bürgerkriegswirren in Libyen fliehen, Hilfe, Nahrung und medizinische Versorgung erhalten können. read more

Italien hat sie aus Libyen ausgeflogen, 58 Flüchtlinge mit UNHCR-Papieren. Da sie keine Pässe haben konnten sie nicht über die Grenzen nach Ägypten oder Tunesien. Teilerfolg nach 44 Tagen Hungerstreik: 300 Migranten aus Nordafrika haben am Mittwoch ihren Protest in Athen beendet, nachdem die Regierung einige ihrer Forderungen erfüllt hat. Darunter ist ein unbefristetes Aufenthaltsrecht. "Sieg! Sieg!" skandierten Dutzende Migranten und Mitglieder linker Organisationen vor dem Gebäude in Athen, wo sie seit mehr als sechs Wochen ausgeharrt hatten. Ihre Forderung, weiteren rund 400.000 illegal in Griechenland lebenden Ausländern aus Nordafrika und Asien unbefristete Aufenthaltserlaubnis zu geben, wurde nicht erfüllt. read more

Eine weitere Welle von Flüchtlingen aus Tunesien hat die italienische Mittelmeerinsel Lampedusa erreicht. In der Nacht zum Montag und am Montagmorgen kamen dort rund ein Dutzend Boote mit insgesamt etwa tausend Menschen an Bord an. Damit sind seit Beginn der Unruhen in dem nordafrikanischen Land bereits mehr als 7000 Flüchtlinge auf Lampedusa gestrandet. read more

Der seit über sechs Wochen anhaltende Hungerstreik von rund 300 illegalen Migranten in Athen und Thessaloniki nimmt immer gefährlichere Dimensionen für die Betroffenen an. Etwa 100 der Streikenden mussten vorübergehend in Krankenhäuser eingeliefert werden. Gesundheitsminister Andreas Loverdos forderte dazu auf, auch alle anderen umgehend in Krankenhäusern zu behandeln; viele von ihnen würden sonst sterben. Als Kompromiss bot die Regierung an, ihnen für den Zeitraum von zweimal sechs Monaten Aufenthaltspapiere auszustellen. read more

Nachdem am Dienstagabend 224 nordafrikanische Migranten in Sicherheit gebracht wurden, landeten trotz rauer See weitere drei Boote auf Lampedusa. An Bord des letzten Bootes befanden sich 83 Flüchtlinge. Insgesamt 24 Boote, die von der tunesischen Küste abgefahren waren, erreichten in den letzten zwei Tagen Lampedusa und Linosa. Insgesamt 1700 Menschen landeten seit Sonntag auf Lampedusa. read more

So offen die weiteren Entwicklungen bleiben, im Dominoeffekt der tunesischen Jasminrevolution meldet sich in atemberaubender Schnelligkeit die alte Erkenntnis zurück, dass Geschichte von unten gemacht wird. Die Kämpfe richten sich gegen die tägliche Armut wie auch gegen die allgemeine Unterdrückung, es geht gleichermaßen um bessere Lebensbedingungen wie um Würde, kurz: um „Brot und Rosen“. read more

Der Flüchtlingsstrom zur italienischen Mittelmeerinsel Lampedusa hält weiter an. Am Montag trafen in der Früh 155 Bootsflüchtlinge ein. Zollbeamte hätten bei einem Flug über die Straße von Sizilien acht weitere Boote gesehen, die die Insel ansteuerten, meldete die Nachrichtenagentur Ansa. Schätzungsweise 180 000 Menschen drängen sich derzeit in den Grenzgebieten zu Tunesien und Ägypten, immer mehr von ihnen versuchen, auf dem Seeweg nach Europa zu gelangen. Dem RTL-"EXTRA"-Reporter Jenke von Wilmsdorff ist es jetzt als erstem TV-Journalisten gelungen, hunderte verzweifelte Flüchtlinge auf einem Schlepperboot nach Lampedusa zu begleiten und dabei das skrupellose Geschäft mit der Not zu dokumentieren. read more
