Freitagnachmittag wurde ein ungarisches Taxi auf der A4 bei Zurndorf (Bezirk Neusiedl am See) von Beamten der Polizei aufgehalten. Im Taxi befanden sich außer dem Taxilenker noch zwei weitere Insassen: Zwei afghanische Staatsangehörige, die keine Ausweisdokumente mitführten. Der Taxilenker gab bei seiner Befragung an, dass er die zwei Männer für einen Fuhrlohn von 60.000 Forint (rund 222 Euro) nach Wien bringen sollte. read more

Europäer und Amerikaner sehen Einwanderung mehrheitlich als Problem – und überschätzen dabei die Zahl der Immigranten bei weitem. Dies hat eine Untersuchung des German Marshall Funds herausgefunden. In Italien zum Beispiel schätzten die Befragten den Anteil von Einwanderern auf ein Viertel der Gesamtbevölkerung – tatsächlich machen sie gerade sieben Prozent aus. read more

Ende Januar verkündigte die EU-Innenkommissarin, Cecilia Malmstroem, den erfolgreichen Abschluss der Verhandlungen über ein "Rückübernahmeabkommen" mit der Türkei. Das Abkommen sieht vor, dass auch Flüchtlinge und Migranten, die über die Türkei nach Europa einreisen, dorthin zurückgeschickt werden können. read more

Durch den Einsatz von Bürgermeisterin Christine Oppitz-Plörer konnte die Abschiebung der Familie Kirakosyan gestoppt werden. "Dafür, dass sich die Bürgermeisterin schützend vor die Familie Kirakosyan gestellt hat, gilt ihr unser ganzer Dank", freut sich die GRÜNE Gemeinderätin Sonja Pitscheider. Ursprünglich hätte die Familie mit zwei Kindern nach Armenien abgeschoben werden sollen. Diese Abschiebung wird nun nicht stattfinden. In Armenien droht dem Familienvater Rafik Kirakosyan Haft, weil er seine Frau ohne Einverständnis ihrer Eltern geheiratet hat. read more

Die Zahl minderjähriger Flüchtlinge ist in Schleswig-Holstein im vergangenen Jahr stark gestiegen. Wurden 2007 noch knapp 50 Jugendliche gezählt, waren es von Januar bis Oktober 2010 bereits 210. Während die meisten jungen Flüchtlinge, die auf der Flucht vor Krieg, Terror und Armut ins Land kamen, von Jugendämtern betreut wurden, landeten neun von ihnen in Abschiebehaft. read more

Die Bundespolizei hat am Rosenheimer Bahnhof eine Frau und ihre drei kleinen Kinder am frühen Mittwochmorgen in Gewahrsam genommen. Die 44-Jährige gab an, aus dem Iran zu stammen. Sie glaubte, in Schweden angekommen zu sein. Anscheinend war ihr war nicht bewusst, dass sie in Rosenheim „gestrandet“ war. Die Bundespolizisten überprüften die Mutter und ihre Kinder im Alter von einem bis fünf Jahren am Bahnhof. Dabei stellte sich heraus, dass sie und ihre Sprösslinge keine Ausweise hatten. Mittels eines Dolmetschers erklärte sie später, bereits vor etwa vier Monaten aus ihrer Heimat geflohen zu sein. Für die Schleusung musste sie rund 9.500 Dollar zahlen. Ein Schleuser habe ihr am Vortag gesagt, dass der Zug, mit dem sie unterwegs sei, nach Schweden fahren würde. read more

Beinahe im letzten Moment ist die Abschiebung einer armenischen Familie in Innsbruck ausgesetzt worden. Das Ehepaar und ihre zwei Kinder, die seit mehr als acht Jahren in Österreich leben und als sehr gut integriert gelten, sollten heute Früh abgeschoben werden. Ein neues internes Dokument ist über Wikileaks öffentlich geworden: Ein hoher UNHCR-Mitarbeiter in Tripolis hat im Mai 2009 die Zurückschiebungen auf See von Italien nach Libyen als Verletzung der Menschenrechte bezeichnet. Er berichtet, dass die Flüchtlinge von den italienischen Offizieren zwangsweise zurückgeschoben wurden und auch nötige medizinische Hilfe nicht erteilt wurde. Die Migrationswelle aus Nordafrika in Richtung Süditalien nimmt wieder zu. Am Dienstagvormittag erreichten 62 Menschen die Insel Lampedusa südlich von Sizilien. Das Boot mit den Flüchtlingen an Bord wurde von einem Motorboot der italienischen Küstenwache 500 Meter vor der Insel gesichtet und bis zum Hafen eskortiert, berichteten italienische Medien.
