Sie hatten panische Angst. 38 Flüchtlinge aus dem Irak und Afghanistan, eingepfercht in einen Frachtcontainer. Das Trinkwasser war aufgebraucht, der Sauerstoff knapp, die Hitze so groß, dass sie sich bis auf die Unterwäsche auszogen. Ihre Notdurft verrichteten sie in Plastiktüten. Der Traum vom Leben in Europa endete für diese Menschen auf einer Fähre zwischen dem griechischen Patras und der italienischen Hafenstadt Ancona. read more

Nachdem die Frontex-Missionen im Mittelmeer vorerst eingestellt wurden ist Malta nun in derMission "Poseidon" in der Ägäis beteiligt. Es wird nächste Woche ein Patrouillenboot vor die Insel Samos schicken, auch wenn die Landgrenze Türkei-Griechenland derzeit das "heiße Pflaster" ist. 16 Besatzungmitglieder werden vier Wochen lang Patrouille fahren. Illegale Einwanderer aus der Türkei können künftig von der EU zurückgeschickt werden. Die EU-Kommission hat mit Ankara ein Rückführungsabkommen ausgehandelt. Die Türkei ist inzwischen wichtigstes Transitland für Flüchtlinge aus Afghanistan und Afrika, die über die Grenze Griechenland und so die EU erreichen. Für Asylbewerber gelten die Regeln aber nicht. read more

Das Bundesverfassungsgericht hat das mit Spannung erwartete Grundsatzurteil zum Asylrecht nicht erlassen. Stattdessen erklärten die Karlsruher Richter, es sei über die Verfassungsbeschwerde 'nicht mehr zu entscheiden'. Zuvor hatten sie den Bundesinnenminister gebeten, die Abschiebung von Flüchtlingen nach Griechenland vorläufig zu stoppen. read more

Seit Jahren kritisiert DIE LINKE die unmenschlichen Zustände für Flüchtlinge in Griechenland. Es ist die von Deutschland maßgeblich betriebene EU-Abschottungspolitik, die mit zu dieser Situation in Griechenland und auch anderen Länder an den EU-Außengrenzen führt. Die Flüchtlinge, denen es gelingt, trotz der Abschottungsstrukturen in die Festung Europa zu gelangen, sollen durch den rassistischen und inhumanen Alltag abgeschreckt werden. 140 malische Migranten und Flüchtlinge wurden in der Nacht zum 26.1. von Libyen nach Mali abgeschoben. Sie hätten keine regulären Papiere in Libyen gehabt und wollten weiter nach Europa, wurde behauptet. Asylrecht Karlsruhe wollte über Griechenlandflüchtlinge nicht entscheiden. Die Regierung hat es ermöglicht. Der Fall wäre einer Entscheidung wert gewesen. Im Kern geht es um unmenschliche Haftbedingungen, um gesundheitsgefährdende sanitäre Einrichtungen, um die faktische Verweigerung eines ordentlichen Asylverfahrens. read more

Der Krieg zwischen den Tamil Tigers und der Regierung Sri Lankas ist vorbei. Jetzt will die Schweiz den Status der Tamilen überprüfen – und allenfalls zurückschicken. Der Bund will ab Juni den Status dieser Flüchtlinge überprüfen und allenfalls ausweisen. Abgewiesene Asylbewerber aus Sri Lanka werden ab sofort ausgeschafft. read more

Die Situation in den Einrichtungen ist alarmierend. Mit einem Hungerstreik wollen mehr als 200 Einwanderer in Griechenland ihrer Forderung nach einer Aufenthaltsgenehmigung Nachdruck verleihen. Sie trafen am Sonntag aus Kreta kommend in Athen ein. Die jungen Männer, die vorwiegend aus Algerien, Marokko und Tunesien stammen, haben auf dem Gelände der juristischen Fakultät der Universität ein Lager aufgeschlagen. Dänemark hat die geplante Abschiebung von rund 340 Asylwerbern nach Griechenland als Folge eines Belgien betreffenden Einzel-Urteils des Europäischen Gerichtshofs für Menschenrechte (EGMR) vom vergangenen Freitag gestoppt. Integrationsministerin Birthe Rönn Hornbech, sagte am Sonntag (gestern), diese Personen würden nun im dänischen Asylverfahren beurteilt. Auch aus Norwegen verlautete laut der norwegischen Nachrichtenagentur NTB, die Regierung werde sich an das Erkenntnis des EGMR halten. read more
