The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation emerged from the association "Gesellschaftsanalyse und politische Bildung e. V." (Social Analysis and Political Education) founded in Berlin in 1990 and later developed into a nationwide institution of political education. It considers itself a discussion forum for critical thinking and political alternatives as well as a research centre for progressive social development.
