Event: Solidarity with Sudan
What it is about:
Since the escalation of the conflict in Sudan in April 2023, 4.5 million people have lost their homes and are considered as internally displaced persons (IDPs). Around 3.4 refugees are currently living in Neighboring states. There are still daily shootings and bombings. And there is a huge increase in human rights abuses such as enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and gender-based violence. Both the military and militias are retaliating against civil society and especially women, the driving forces of Sudan's 2019 revolution: women are being raped, abducted, and abused. Consequences of the war include water and supply shortages, spreading epidemics, and lack of health care.
The Africa Center of Justice and Peace Studies and Borderline Europe established a digital database to document and secure information on enforced disappearances just weeks before the outbreak of the war. Meanwhile, 10 monitors are observing the deteriorating situation in Sudan. Initial findings will be presented presented to the UN Committee to Protect People against Enforced Disappearances in early September.
Our aim:
What are current developments in Sudan? How can we support civil society and revolutionary committees in Sudan?
