Der Kampf geht weiter: Berufungsverfahren der #Paros3 am 08.06.23
Am 08. Juni findet auf der griechischen Insel Syros der Berufungsprozess gegen Abdallah, Kheiraldin und Mohamad, die #Paros3, statt. Da sie das Boot gesteuert hatten, mit dem sie und rund 80 weitere Menschen versuchten, EUropa zu erreichen, wurden sie am 05. Juni 2022 wegen Schmuggel zu insgesamt 439 Jahren Haft verurteilt. Sie sitzen bereits seit 1,5 Jahren im Gefängnis.

Dekonstruktion des Solidaritätskonzepts der EU
The European Union prides itself on the concept of "solidarity." We want to look behind the scenes of this concept and ask in this article: What does solidarity actually mean in the context of the EU-ropean asylum system? With whom is the European Union in solidarity? Where are the borderlines of solidarity in the EU and why do we consider this problematic? In the following, we engage with the example of the EU ad hoc relocation mechanism, used as a blueprint for the so-called Voluntary Solidarity Mechanism (VSM), to illustrate that the concept of solidarity is not only experiencing a crisis but, in our understanding, must be deconstructed and completely rethought within the EU.

On 14th May, Turkey is due to hold a parliamentary and presidential election that is attracting a lot of international attention as a “fateful election” because of its potential impact on domestic and foreign policy. This article focuses on the orientation of Turkish asylum and migration policy negotiated in the election programmes, which is particularly complex due to Turkey's geopolitical situation and its instrumentalisation as an EU buffer zone for refugee movements.

Jahresbericht 2022: Widerstand gegen das europäische Grenzregime
Gewalt, Armut und Perspektivlosigkeit veranlassten auch im vergangenen Jahr unzählige Menschen dazu, lebensgefährliche Wege auf sich zu nehmen, um (vermeintliche) Sicherheit in Europa zu suchen. Alleine bei dem Versuch, das Mittelmeer zu überqueren, sind seit 2014 mehr als 25.000 Menschen gestorben oder gelten als vermisst. Die Antwort der EU: Militarisierung, Kriminalisierung und Abschottung. Die letzten Jahre haben zu einer stetig zunehmenden Eskalation in der europäischen Migrationspolitik geführt. Von obskuren Abkommen mit außereuropäischen Drittländern, über den Bau von als Aufnahmezentren getarnten Hochsicherheitstrakts bis zu körperlicher Misshandlung von Schutzsuchenden durch vermummte EU-Grenzschutzbeamt*innen. Dank eurer Unterstützung konnten wir auch im Jahr 2022 die rassistische Grenzgewalt an Europas Binnen- und (externalisierten) Außengrenzen sichtbar machen und für das Recht auf Bewegungsfreiheit für Alle kämpfen!

Streiflicht Italien: "Nicht-Orte"
Als EU-Außengrenzstaat ist Italien einer der Hauptschauplätze der europäischen Migrationspolitik. Das Massensterben im zentralen Mittelmeer, die elenden Zustände in den Massenaufnahmeeinrichtungen und die Blockierung der zivilen Seenotrettung stehen seit vielen Jahren für den menschenfeindlichen Umgang Europas mit Schutzsuchenden. Unter diesen Gesichtspunkten rückt Italien immer wieder in den medialen Fokus, gleichzeitig gibt es jedoch kaum Berichte darüber, was mit den Menschen passiert, wenn sie die riskante Überfahrt überleben und italienisches Festland erreichen. Wo geht es für sie hin? Welche Chancen auf ein sicheres Leben haben sie in Italien? Mit der Pilotausgabe unseres Streiflicht Italien widmen wir uns den Nicht-Orten, die die italienische Aufnahmepolitik für Ankommende geschaffen hat. Ein System, in dem Schutzsuchende in die Unsichtbarkeit gedrängt werden. In vier Kapiteln befassen wir uns mit den folgenden Themen: 1. Das italienische Aufnahmesystem 2. Nicht-Ort Abschiebungshaft und Abschiebungen 3. Niemals Ankommen. Das Dublin-System in Italien 4. Solidarisch ist, wenn das Recht auf Bewegung für alle gilt Wir zeigen in dieser Ausgabe, wie Orte bewusst zu Nicht-Orten gemacht werden, an denen Anonymität und, Einsamkeit herrschen. 35 Organisationen warnen vor Abkehr vom Flüchtlingsschutz in Europa: Bundesregierung muss sich gegen Instrumentalisierungsverordnung stellen!
On Thursday, 8 December, the EU interior ministers will vote in the Council of the European Union (EU) on a legislative proposal that would have serious consequences: Refugee protection and human rights are to be undermined by the so-called Instrumentalisation Regulation at the external borders. In the run-up to the vote, 35 organisations refer to the coalition agreement and urge the federal government in a joint statement to vote against the draft.

Dänemark-Ruanda-Deal: Abschiebung von Menschen, Outsourcing und Offshoring von Asyl
In September 2022, Denmark and Rwanda signed an agreement on the possible transfer of asylum seekers to the East African country. The prospective ‘transfer-system’ resembles the one announced by the UK in April. About 1,000 people may be deported yearly to a country thousands of kilometres away where refugees are killed and forcibly recruited by militias. After fleeing their countries, crossing borders, and risking their lives to reach a safe place, people are pushed back into a state of imminent danger. Die Torwächter der Europäischen Union: Der Sudan nach El-Bashir
Five years ago, borderline-europe organized its first externalization conference in Berlin. We scrutinized the treaties, agreements and control mechanisms which were established to seal off the borders of the EU. In 2012, the European Union was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Ten years later, people are still drowning in the Mediterranean Sea and dying of thirst crossing the deserts – because there still are no safe escape routes. Under the rule of dictator Omar El-Bashir, Sudan has played a crucial role in securing the borders that have been outsourced to Africa. The country has become Europe’s gatekeeper for refugees and migrants from East Africa and other parts of the world. With the 2019 revolution, hope of a new democratic government emerged in Sudan. The 2021 coup shattered this hope. What is the situation today? This brochure is the result of a joint event with Bildungswerk Berlin of the Heinrich Böll Foundation and Africa Center for Justice and Peace Studies in Karthoum. It discusses the status today and which consequences the countercoup has had for people on the move.
