EU-Pact on Migration
Since March 2021, borderline-europe has been coordinating a project on the New EU Pact on Migration and Asylum within the framework of the "Europe for Citizens" program. A total of six partner organizations are addressing the Pact regarding various focal topics.
Background
In the course of the efforts to reform the "Common European Asylum System (CEAS)", the European Commission presented the proposal for a new EU Pact on Migration & Asylum in September 2020.
Self-proclaimed goals include more efficient and faster procedures at the EU's external borders and the promotion of cooperation among member states. According to human rights organizations and legal experts, however, the proposal poses a threat to the individual right to asylum and provides a distorted view of European solidarity, in which cohesion among member states is constituted by fighting people on the move.
Together with our partner organizations, we shed light on the pact from various perspectives and delve into selected aspects in events and discussions.
The project is funded by the EU program "Europe for Citizens", which aims to strengthen civil society participation in political discourse at the EU level.
